**To retrieve the current status of the thing index**

The following ``describe-index`` example retrieves the current status of the thing index. ::

    aws iot describe-index \
        --index-name "AWS_Things"

Output::

    {

        "indexStatus": "ACTIVE",
        "schema": "REGISTRY_AND_SHADOW_AND_CONNECTIVITY_STATUS"
    }
